Respite care
Our work in the crucial first 4 weeks (or 28 days) of life can significantly improve future outcomes. Petal is equipped for babies until they are mobile - or until they are twelve months old.
Depending on the circumstances of baby, mother and whānau, our aim is to reduce early trauma to baby and transition them compassionately, giving them the best start in life.
We focus on
-
Withdrawalbabies are nurtured through the trauma of substance withdrawal.
-
Lovebabies are shown wrap -around love and care.
-
Attachmentbabies maintain connection with their detoxing mums (either in Alcohol and Drug residential facility or their home) with supporting breastmilk and updates as desired.
-
Nutritionmother’s choice of feeding is supported including her expressed milk, donor milk or formula. Feeding plans specific to each baby’s growth requirements are negotiated with mum and if required assisted with expert medical advice.
